Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about tutoring, our programs, and getting involved with Bio4Youth.

Are Bio4Youth's programs really free? +

Yes — tutoring, Summer & Winter Sessions, and Live Experiences are all free of cost. Reach out through the contact form and we'll get you the details.

Does Bio4Youth only cover biology? +

Biology is our focus, but many of our volunteers also have experience in chemistry, environmental science, and general STEM subjects. Reach out and we'll do our best to help or point you in the right direction.

Who can take part in Bio4Youth programs? +

Our free tutoring currently focuses on K–8 students building beginner-level biology skills. Summer & Winter Sessions and Live Experiences are open more broadly — reach out and we'll point you in the right direction.

Can my school or organization host a Live Experience? +

Absolutely. Teachers, after-school programs, and community groups can request a volunteer-led Live Experience through our contact form, and we'll work with you to find a date.

I'm not a student or a volunteer — how else can I help? +

Spreading the word matters as much as anything else right now. Following us, sharing our programs with a teacher or parent, or reaching out about donations all help us grow.

How do I sign up my child or student for tutoring? +

Reach out through our contact form with your student's grade level and a little about what they're looking for, and we'll match them with a volunteer mentor as soon as we're able.

Are tutoring sessions held in person or online? +

We offer both, depending on volunteer availability and location. Let us know your preference when you reach out and we'll do our best to accommodate it.

Is Bio4Youth an official 501(c)(3) nonprofit? +

We're currently in the process of getting approved as a offical 501c(3) nonprofit, but that does not stop us from helping students.

Do I need a background in biology to volunteer as a mentor? +

Not necessarily. We welcome volunteers from any STEM background who are excited to work with young students, and we'll help you get comfortable with the material.

Is there a cost for schools to host a Live Experience? +

No — Live Experiences are free for schools, libraries, and community groups. Just reach out with a general timeframe and we'll work with you to find a date.

How are Bio4Youth's lessons and activities structured? +

Our curriculum is organized into progressive units for grades K–2, 3–5, and 6–8, pairing guided lessons with hands-on activities so students build biology skills step by step.

Can high school or college students get involved, not just K–8 families? +

Yes — while our tutoring programs focus on K–8 students, older students are welcome to volunteer as mentors or get involved in other ways. Reach out and we'll point you in the right direction.

How can I make a donation? +

We're finalizing our donation process as we complete our nonprofit formation. Reach out through our contact form in the meantime and we'll let you know how you can support us.

How can my business or organization partner with Bio4Youth? +

We're always open to partnerships with local businesses, schools, and other community organizations. Send us a note through our contact form and we'll set up a time to talk.

How do I stay updated on new sessions and volunteer opportunities? +

Follow us on Instagram or reach out through our contact form to hear about new Summer and Winter Sessions, Live Experience requests, and volunteer opportunities as they come up.
