Bio4Youth mentors are students, educators, and professionals who volunteer their time to tutor, guide lab activities, and lead Live Experiences for K–8 students. No teaching degree required — just curiosity and reliability.

Ways to get involved

1:1

Tutor

Work one-on-one with a K–8 student on beginner-level biology topics, at a pace and schedule that works for both of you.

Seasonal

Session Mentor

Help lead small-group activities during our Summer and Winter Sessions, guiding students through hands-on lab work.

In-Person

Live Experience Volunteer

Bring hands-on biology activities into classrooms, libraries, and community spaces on request.

Behind the Scenes

Program & Outreach Support

Help with curriculum planning, event coordination, or spreading the word about Bio4Youth.

What we look for

You don't need a teaching background to make a great Bio4Youth mentor — just a genuine interest in biology and a willingness to show up for students.

  • ✓ Comfort working with K–8 students
  • ✓ Reliability and a bit of enthusiasm
  • ✓ No teaching experience required — we'll help you get comfortable with the material
